Sahana Bajpaie

Sahana Bajpaie is an Indian singer and songwriter. She primarily works in the Bengali music industry. She is known for singing Rabindra Sangeet, fusion and folk songs. Some of her popular songs are “Bolo Shokhi Bolo” in the film Tasher Desh (2012), “Poush Toder” in the film Under Construction (2015), “Maharajo Eki Saje” in the film Ek Je Chhilo Raja (2018).

She was brought up in Santiniketan, West Bengal. She completed her schooling at Patha Bhavana, Santiniketan, West Bengal. She trained in Indian Classical music and Rabindra Sangeet under Bijoy Sinha, Madhumita Roy, Chitra Roy, Shyamoli Bandopadhyay and others. She completed a degree in Master’s in English Literature from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. She worked as a teacher at a school in Bangladesh and later as a professor at BRAC University, Bangladesh. She moved to London to complete a Master’s in South Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University, in 2008. Later, she joined as a lecturer of Bengali Language and Literature at the SOAS University. She completed her PhD degree in Ethnomusicology from King’s College London.
