Prosenjit Chatterjee was following a strict diet to play the role of the character “Kushal Hajra.” He ate less than usual and performed a lot of cardiovascular exercises to achieve a lean look. Prosenjit Chatterjee started acting in films as a child actor. He was first seen in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Chotto Jigyasa (1968).
He continued appearing as a child actor in many films. In Dui Prithibi (1970), directed by Piyush Bose, Prosenjit got the role of young Mrinal Dutta, a character played by the actor Uttam Kumar. He debuted as the main lead in the film Dui Pata (1983), directed by Bimal Roy. This film was a teenage romance. The film that elevated Prosenjit to fame was Amar Sangi (1987), opposite Vijayeta Pandit. This film’s cult hit song titled ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’ became a popular song among Bengali audiences. The film ran for 75 weeks and set new records.
The other two films that were important in Prosenjit Chatterjee’s career were Apon Amaar Apon (1990), directed by Tarun Majumdar, and Ami, Yasin Ar Amar Madhubala (2007), directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta. As of 2023, he has starred in more than 50 films paired opposite Satabdi Roy, 35 films opposite Rachna Banerjee, 50 films opposite Rituparna Sengupta, 16 with Indrani Haldar and four with his wife Arpita Pal. Prosenjit Chatterjee made his debut in Bollywood with David Dhawan’s Aandhiyan released in 1990. After appearing in several commercial films he changed his track to parallel cinema. Abhishek Chattopadhyay’s bold remarks on Prosenjit Chatterjee
Abhishek Chattopadhyay was an actor who is known for his work in Bengali language films and TV serials. He claimed, in an interview, that Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta were the reason why he did not get films for 9 years. He also claimed that he did not like the dirty politics that was played by them to ruin his career as a result of this he had to take smaller acting roles in TV serials. In 2019, Prosenjit Chatterjee was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the Rose Valley chit fund scam. According to sources, Prosenjit Chatterjee was once part of a film produced by the chit-fund company named ‘Hangover.’ The company claimed that the film was made with a budget of less than Rs. 5 Lakh whereas the Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that Rose Valley purposely devalued the film’s production cost and used the investor’s money to make the film with a higher budget.
