Theatre & Plays
Sujaya Dasgupta in 2011, got to play a part in two plays “Lost” and “Private Fears in Public Places” for Barn Theatre productions in Welwyn Garden City. In 2012 she made her London stage debut as Hippolyta in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. This play was staged at Theatro Technis. She was featured in Arthur Miller’s play “Death of a Salesman” in 2017, which was directed by Abigail Graham and was a Royal & Derngate, Northampton production. In 2019, Sujaya went on a UK tour for the play “A Thousand Splendid Suns” directed by Roxana Silbert. In this play, she played the role of Laila; the show was staged at the Birmingham Rep and the Northern Stage in Newcastle upon Tyne
She also featured in the play Silence in 2022 which was staged at London’s Donmar Warehouse and Tara Theatre.
Film
Sujaya got to play a character in the short film Red Wolf (2014) while she was attending her acting course at drama school.
Television
After Sujaya graduated from drama school she made her television debut with a 2015 episode on BBC medical drama “Doctors” as Priya Sutaria. She got a chance to play the character Veena Patel in the 2016 American TV series “Guilt.” The series received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. In 2019, she was offered to play Zoya Nazyalensky in the Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone. The series was based on the books of Leigh Bardugo “The Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows Duology.” It was premiered in 2021.

She made a special appearance in Michaela Coel’s British miniseries “I May Destroy You” (2020) and also in the British sitcom series “Ghosts” released in 2021. In 2022, Sujaya had the opportunity to play the main role in the Apple TV+ adaptation of “Shantaram” written by Gregory David Roberts. The TV series was created by Eric Warren Singer and Steve Lightfoot. “Shantaram” received mostly favourable reviews.

- “Shantaram” was supposed to be shot in India but due to severe COVID-19 restrictions during the time of shooting the team had to shoot at studios in Melbourne and Bangkok. All the plate shots were shot in India after the restrictions were lifted. They were real shots from Mumbai.
